Vincent Gardenia

Vincent Gardenia ( January 7, 1922 in Naples, † December 9, 1992 in Philadelphia ) was an American theater, film and television actor. During the 1970s and 1980s Gardenia was known films like Death Wish or Moonstruck seen as profiled Supporting Actor.

Life and work

He was born under the name of Vincenzo Scognamiglio in Italy. After he emigrated to the U.S., he spent much of his life in Brooklyn.

His first feature film he shot 1945. 1961 he starred opposite Paul Newman in The Hustler. Subsequently, he has guest starred in numerous television series. In the 1970s, he was seen among others in the films Death Wish, Lucky Luchiano and extra leaf. Short term: he belonged to the regular cast of the sitcom All in the Family, the U.S. version of one heart and one soul. In 1980, he took a role in the film Crash landing in paradise. 1985 appeared in the musical film Little Shop of Horrors on, one year later in the comedy Moonstruck. He had his last major role in 1991 on the side with Joe Pesci in the movie A The Super. Vincent Gardenia died in 1992 of a heart attack.

In memory of him, the 16th Avenue was renamed in Brooklyn between the Cropsey Avenue and Shore Parkway, Vincent Gardenia Boulevard.
