Vincent Lafforgue

Vincent Lafforgue is a French mathematician.

Lafforgue won in 1990 and 1991, the Mathematics Olympiad. He studied from 1992 to the Ecole Normale Superieure and Ph.D. in 1998 at the University of Paris-Sud in Orsay with Jean -Benoît Bost (KK - théorie bivariate pour les algebres de Banach et conjecture de tree - Connes ). Lafforgue is a professor at the University of Paris -Diderot.

He achieved important results in the K- theory of operator algebras: In his dissertation, he proved the tree - Connes conjecture for special groups and thus achieved with respect to this assumption, which plays a central role in non-commutative geometry, a breakthrough. In 2000 he was awarded the EMS price. In 2002 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing ( Banach KK - theory and the tree - Connes conjecture ).

His brother is a mathematician (winner of the Fields Medal ) Laurent Lafforgue.
