Vincent Racaniello

Vincent Raimondi Racaniello ( born January 2, 1953 in Paterson, New Jersey) is an American microbiologist and professor at Columbia University.

Life

Racaniello acquired in 1974 from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in biology and in 1980 a PhD doctorate in Peter Palese. In his dissertation he examined the influenza virus, it was entitled Biochemical and Genetic Studies of influenza B and C virus.

As a post-doc with David Baltimore at MIT (1979-1982) Racaniello took advantage of recombinant DNA technology for cloning and DNA sequencing of the genome of poliovirus. By these means he created the first infiziösen clone an animal RNA virus.

In 1992 he received the Eli Lilly and Company Research Award.

Since 2008 he runs with other virologists the Netcast This Week in Virology ( TWiV ), are presented and discussed in the current results of virological research.
