Vincenzo Carafa

Vincenzo Carafa, sometimes Carrafa or Caraffa, ( born May 5, 1585 Naples, † June 8, 1649 in Rome ) was the 7th General of the Society of Jesus.

Life

Carafa was from the family of the Count of Montorio, one of his ancestors was Gian Pietro Carafa, later Pope Paul IV

At age 19, he entered the Order on October 4, 1604. After training and studying Carafa lectured philosophy in Naples and stood there as head of the religious house before. During this time he also began to publish, mostly under the pseudonym Aloysius Sidereus.

After the death of the 6th General of the Order, Mutio Vitelleschi, the General Assembly, on January 7, 1646 Carafa to its 7th General.

On June 8, 1649 Vincenzo Carafa died at the age of 64 years in Rome. His successor was Francesco Piccolomini.

Opened on March 18, 1693 beatification process is not yet complete.
