Vincenzo Macchi

Vincenzo Macchi ( born August 30, 1770 in Capodimonte, † September 30, 1860 in Rome ) was a papal diplomat and Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Vincenzo Macchi received on 29 December 1792, the ordination. Pope Pius VII appointed him titular archbishop of Nisibis 1818 and appointed him as Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland. The Episcopal ordination on October 4, 1818 He received his Cardinal Lorenzo Litta. In 1819 he was appointed nuncio in France. Pope Leo XII. overtook him in 1826 as Bishop Curia to Rome.

On 2 October 1826, he was called by Pope Leo XII. appointed to the rank of cardinal cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. He was a candidate of the conclave of 1830, but was not as well supported, despite the retention of Giuseppe Albani.

Under Pope Gregory XVI. 1834-1840 he was Prefect of the Congregation Council. In 1840 he was appointed cardinal bishop of Palestrina, 1844 to Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and also secretary of the Holy Inquisition and also appointed Cardinal Bishop of Ostia in 1847. From 1847 until his death was dean of the Sacred College.
