Vincenzo Righini

Vincenzo Righini ( born January 22, 1756 in Bologna, † August 19, 1812 in Bologna) was an Italian composer and singer.

Life

Righini received his education at the Conservatory of Bologna, was hired at age 20 as a tenor in the opera buffa in Prague, worked from 1779 to 1788 as Kapellmeister and vocal virtuoso in Vienna, then joined in the same capacity at the service of the Elector of Mainz, Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal. Since Righini was appointed in 1793 as Kapellmeister to Berlin, Righini's office in Mainz by Johann Sterkel was taken. In Berlin he learned the opera singer Henriette Kneisel and married her in 1794. The marriage was, however, already in 1800 divorced. Righini became a singing teacher of considerable reputation, among other things, for Bettina von Arnim, Maria Theresia Paradis and even Elisabeth of Württemberg. Righini died after a long illness on a vacation trip in his native city of Bologna.

His compositions, in which the element next to Italian German already decided arrives effective, the fair for the coronation of Emperor Leopold II (1790 ) and a Te Deum to celebrate the birthday of Queen Louise of Prussia are particularly noteworthy (1810 ). He wrote many operas, including: Armida, Atalanta e Meleagro, Enea nel Lazio, Gerusalemme Liberata and Tigrana. He also left numerous vocal compositions, including over 150 songs, which, however, as well as his operas soon fell into oblivion after the death of the artist.
