Vinegar Joe (Band)

Vinegar Joe was a British R & B band in the early 1970s. The band performed on a rotating cast; permanent members who participated on all three of the well-established by Vinegar Joe albums, but were

  • Elkie Brooks - keyboards, vocals
  • Pete Gage - guitar, keyboards, vocals
  • Robert Palmer - guitar, vocals
  • Steve York - harmonica, bass

Emerged from the remains of a larger jazz-rock band " Dada ", the band was famous for their live performances. In contrast, the records sold relatively poorly. The lack of commercial success is sometimes cited as the cause for the early resolution of Vinegar Joe in 1974. But while the lead singer Elkie Brooks drew most of the publicity on himself, Robert Palmer took some time before the official end of the cooperation the decision to go own ways. Because the other band members were strong characters, their musical creativity with the competing of the two lead singers, it may have been particularly difficult for Robert Palmer, to subordinate and to pedal as a singer, composer and lyricist often in the background.

After the separation of Vinegar Joe began Robert Palmer, Elkie Brooks and soon afterwards their successful solo careers.
