Vinmonopolet

Vinmonopolet (Norwegian: the wine monopoly) is a public company in Norway, which is under the supervision of the Norwegian Labour and Social Affairs. It has a national monopoly for the sale of alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 4.75 % by volume. The liquor store was founded as a private limited company under state control on 30 November 1922. Piece by piece was purchased by the state to private interests, since 1939 the state liquor store is 100 percent.

The Vinmonopol corresponds to the Swedish Systembolaget, the Finnish Alko, the Icelandic and Faroese Vínbúðin Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins.
