Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from the eponymous town in southern Tuscany is one of the three great Sangiovese wines of this region. The best specimens are in taste between a Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti one. Since 9 August 1999, the appellation has the status of a DOCG.

Was named the "noble wine " because he for Pope Paul III. , Who came from Montepulciano, has been reserved at his request. Another alternative explanation for the name of the wine is the fact that it was only noble families ( the aristocracy ) allows the production of this wine.

Here are the admixture of other grape varieties are allowed as in Chianti, where the Sangiovese with at least 70 percent must make up the majority. Other varieties, which are often used for blending are Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca Lunga.

Also in this wine is available from most producers a kind of " junior version", the Rosso di Montepulciano, which is priced a little cheaper.
