Viola Davis

Viola Davis ( born August 11, 1965 in Saint Matthews, South Carolina ) is an American actress.

Life and career

Viola Davis joined the Juilliard School and a degree in theater arts from the Rhode Iceland college. She debuted on the side of Tony Goldwyn, Timothy Hutton and Sarah Jessica Parker in a small supporting role in the film drama The Substance of Fire from the year 1996. In the television comedy The Pentagon Wars (1998), she played one of the major roles.

2001 Davis won for her role in King Hedley II play a Tony Award. Their role in the science fiction film Solaris (2002) by Steven Soderbergh, in which she appeared alongside George Clooney and Natascha McElhone in a larger role earned her a nomination for the 2003 Black Reel Award. For her role in the film drama Antwone Fisher ( 2002) she was nominated in 2003 for the Independent Spirit Award. In 2005 she won the role in the play Intimate Apparel Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award. In the film drama The Architect ( 2006), it took next to Anthony LaPaglia, Isabella Rossellini and Hayden Panettiere one of the major roles. For the part of a desperate mother in John Patrick Shanley's drama filming Doubt (2008), whose son was allegedly molested by a Catholic priest, she was awarded the National Board of Review and nominations for an Oscar and Golden Globe. In the movie Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, she played the role of a CIA department head. Only a few months later celebrated the success of film Eat Pray Love premiere in which she appeared alongside Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem and James Franco. 2011 Davis played the leading role in the multiple Oscar- nominated drama The Help racism. For the part of the black housekeeper Aibileen Clark at the time of racial segregation in the 1960s, she was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for Best Actress, but lost against Meryl Streep struck against with which Davis played together already in the film Doubt. A short time later, she played the supporting role of the obese Abby in Black also Oscar -nominated drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. In February 2012, she landed the lead role in the drama Beautiful Creatures, which is based on the book series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Davis is married to actor Julius Tennon since 2003 and has two children.
