The Violectra was developed in the early 1960s by the U.S. firm Barcus -Berry. Jean -Luc Ponty was one of the first jazz violinist who has used them, as they played Michał Urbaniak and electronic Bacsik. The oldest known recording with a Violectra comes from its co-developer John Berry on a build for demonstration purposes in 1963 album.
