Violet Hunt

Isobel Violet Hunt ( born September 28, 1862 in Durham, † January 16, 1942 ) was a British author.

Her father was the artist Alfred William Hunt, her mother the novelist mother Margaret Raine Hunt ( 1831-1912 ). Her younger sister Venetia married the designer William Arthur Smith 1886 Benson. Born in Durham, her family moved to London in 1865. She arrived there in contact with pre-Raphaelite groups, among others, John Ruskin and William Morris. It was in 1879 also known with Oscar Wilde in Dublin.

Hunt wrote many novels, also a biography of Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal, but is considered to be free and to be biased against her husband Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Hunt lived with the married writer Ford Madox Ford, as with HG Wells and William Somerset Maugham, who she portrayed in his novel Of Human Bondage as Nora Nesbit.
