Violeta Szekely

Violeta Szekely ( born Beclea; born March 26, 1965 in Dolhestii Mari, Suceava County ) is a retired Romanian middle distance runner.

Szekely finished third in the 1500 meter race at the World Championships in 1991 ranked tenth and ninth place at the World Championships in 1993. At World Indoor Championships she won in 1989 a fourth place in the 800 meters and each second place in 1991 in the 800 meters and 1993 over 1500 meters. In 1995, a three -year ban for doping with anabolic steroids was imposed on them.

After which she took over 1500 meters silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in 1999 and finished fourth at the World Championships in 1999. A year later, she won over the same distance, the gold medal at the IAAF European Indoor Championships 2000. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 she won a silver medal over 1500 meters behind the Algerian Nouria Merah - Benida and before her compatriot Gabriela Szabo.
