Vions

Vions is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Vions is located at 240 m above sea level. M., near Culoz, about 30 kilometers north of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the extreme northwest of the department of Savoie, in the Rhône Valley Chautagne at the southern foot of a hill, near the Lac du Bourget.

The area of ​​3.70 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the Rhone Valley. The main part of the territory occupied by the broad valley ( average 235 m above sea level. History

Vions, formerly written Vyons is first mentioned in the Middle Ages. The village belonged to the dominion of Montluel family who resided in the Château de Châtillon at the Lac du Bourget. In the 12th century the Augustinians founded a priory here.

Attractions

The village church of Vions was built in the 19th century. Remains of the priory (12th century) are preserved on the Mollard de Vions.

Population

With 412 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vions one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population was declining in the first half of the 20th century, an increase in population was recorded since the mid- 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure
