Virac (Catanduanes)

Virac is a Philippine municipality and capital of the island province of Catanduanes. It has 66,951 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 63 barangays. The community is described as partly urban and belongs to the first class of income communities in the Philippines. Virac is situated about 365 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines Manila, on the south coast of the island. The municipality has a domestic airport which is served by Zest Airways and Cebu Pacific. Ferry connections are made among others by Tabaco City in Albay province, which is 59 km south of Virac.

Virac is a hilly to mountainous topography described in which the nature and water reserve Catanduanes Watershed Forest Reserve, with its vast rain forests.

Climate of Virac is classified as Type II, with no pronounced dry or wet season. The average annual rainfall is 2,776 mm with / m, with the strongest rainfall from October to December. The community is located within the Typhongürtels in the Philippines.

In Virac is the seat of the Diocese of Virac, which looks after the entire island.
