Viremia

Viremia indicates the presence of virus in the blood. This occurs in almost all viral infections for a period of time. The concentration of virus in the blood or serum is also referred to as viral load.

The viremia often preceded the destruction of the host cells in which the viruses have proliferated. Viremia is often accompanied in the course of the immune response due to an increase of the interleukins 1 and 6, fever and chills.
