Virgin Islands March

The Virgin Islands March ( Virgin Islands - march ) is the national anthem of the United States Virgin Islands. He was the unofficial national anthem of the U.S. territory until 1963 was declared by law as the official state symbol.

Formation

The Virgin Islands march composed in 1919 Alton Augustus Adams ( 1889-1987 ), a bandmaster in the Navy, who himself came from the Virgin Islands.

Melody

The written in brisk march tempo and proven -popular gesture of American marching band tradition anthem is similar in structure and effect of John Philip Sousa's famous The Stars and Stripes Forever. It is a fairly long instrumental prelude (18 cycles ) was introduced in B flat major, which in turn begins with a brief fanfare. The verses ( 16 bars ) put only one with the quieter Trio in E flat major. After an interlude ( 8 bars ) the verse melody is repeated.
