Virginia General Assembly

The Virginia General Assembly is the legislature of the State of Virginia.

History

The Virginia General Assembly is the oldest legislative body in the Western Hemisphere. It goes back to the year 1619 as the foundation of the House of Burgesses at Jamestown was made. It was here from 1619 to 1699 the meetings were held. Then you met in Williamsburg, Virginia at the Capitol. With the ratification of the Constitution of the State of Virginia, it was 1776, the Legislature General Assembly. Governor Thomas Jefferson in 1780 prompted the move to Richmond.

Composition

The Assembly consists of two chambers, the House of Representatives ( Lower House) and the Senate ( Upper House ). Seat of the Parliament is the capital of Richmond.
