Virginia is a city in St. Louis County in Minnesota. It is located in the northeast of the U.S. federal government in the Mesabi Range and has approximately 9,150 inhabitants.

Geography

Virginia is located approximately 85 kilometers northwest of Duluth on U.S. Route 53 and U.S. Route 169 According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of ​​the city is 49.7 square miles, of which 0.9 square miles of water.

History

In March 1892 it was discovered in the region around Virginia iron ore deposits. This led to the founding of the town in September 1892. The name Virginia was a suggestion by David T. Adams, a researcher who had searched in the area after ore deposits. On June 18, 1893, the town was almost completely destroyed by fire. Week long drought had led to the outbreak of major fire. 1894 was the place rebuilt the city rights. But on June 7, 1900 destroyed a forest fire which spread to the city, again large parts of Virginia. Only the outlying residential areas were spared.
