Virudhunagar (Tamil: விருதுநகர் Virutunagar [ ʋiɾɯðɯnaɡəɾ ], also Virudunagar, formerly Virudupatti ) is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located in southern inland areas of the state about 45 kilometers south of Madurai. At the time of the Indian census of 2001 had 73 003 inhabitants Virudhunagar. The city is the administrative center of the district of Virudhunagar.

Virudhunagar is a major trade center, where goods are transhipped the surrounding rural areas such as oil, cotton, chilli, spices and cardamom. The city is conveniently located on National Highway 7 which connects the longest highway in India with Varanasi, Kanyakumari. Furthermore, the station of Virudhunagar is a major transportation hub: Here branches off from the main route from Madurai to Tirunelveli side roads, which leads via Tenkasi to the west coast to Kollam.

Virudhunagar is the birthplace of K. Kamaraj (1903-1975), former President of the Congress Party and later Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Major attractions of the city are the birthplace Kamarajs and a 400 year old temple of the goddess Mariamman.
