VirusTotal is a operated by Google Inc., free web service with the offer to upload individual files and make online by analyzing 51 different anti-virus programs currently in 24 languages. So there is no software that needs to be installed, but a website that you upload the files to be checked.

To test files can either be directly uploaded to the website, by e -mail ( [email protected] ) or sent via an SSL connection, which ensures additional safety.

The use of the variety of anti -virus programs, it allows the user to obtain more reliable results than with only one scanner. Indeed, it is often the case that some of the programs to recognize a file as malware, but not others. The results ultimately suggest, remains the task of the user.

VirusTotal limits the size of the file to be tested on each 64 megabytes (formerly 32 and 20 megabytes).
