Viscount Samuel

Viscount Samuel of Mount Carmel and Toxteth in the City of Liverpool, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is run by the family of Samuel.

Award

The title was created in 1937 for the politician Herbert Louis Samuel. This was the first Jew, who had become a cabinet minister. From 1920 to 1925 he was High Commissioner of the British League of Nations mandate for Palestine. In the following years he was Chairman of the Liberal Party. He was the nephew of Samuel Montagu, 1st Baron Swaythling.

Expected heir ( Heir Presumptive ) is the brother of the current Viscount, Hon Dan Judah Samuel (* 1925). Its legacy is his son Jonathan Herbert Samuel (* 1965).
