Vismeistri

Vismeistri is a district (Estonian asum ) in the northwest of the Estonian capital Tallinn. It is located in Haabersti district.

Description and History

The green and natural municipality has 1,399 inhabitants (as of 1 May 2010).

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1515. Since 1975, the former village belongs to the city of Tallinn.

The historical German name is Fischmeister. There was the seat of the fish master, an official of the Teutonic Order, which was subordinate to the commander of Tallinn ( Reval German ). His job was to take care during Lent for fish.
