Restructuring in 2006

As a result of an architectural competition, a blue, four-story glass building was built. When Visp Railway shunters work a few of the Matterhorn- Gotthard -Bahn and the counter staff of ticket issue. The station building is also used commercially; an eye clinic, a few shops and a pharmacy are found there.

Following the construction of the Lötschberg base tunnel, Visp station for surrounding cities such as Sion, Martigny and winter resorts, including Saas -Fee, Saas -Grund and Zermatt became a changeover station, because the tunnel terminates short of Visp and the larger cities bypasses. With the exception of the Euro City's Geneva - Milan ( Venice ) and partly to the Glacier Express St. Moritz Zermatt, Visp now hold in all passenger trains.

The new building of the railway station, the population grew at Visps. Was it 2006 or 6500 inhabitants, 2008 it was already 7100 inhabitants. This is an increase of almost ten percent in two years. This is due to the newly created through the station settlement area Visp- West, which continues to colonize 3,000 citizens in just three years. Since then, more of a stagnation of the population recorded. Visp had only 7191 inhabitants in late 2011. The city suffers from large through traffic. Discharge is to reconcile the A9 bypass under construction.

2007 Visp Railway was awarded the prize for FLUX particularly well-designed transportation hub.

Visp has a well-developed post bus network. At least every hour the surrounding communities as Visperterminen, Bürchen, Saas be approached base and other localities. By the Postbus network Visp became a commercial center for the surrounding communities. This can be also seen from the fact that Visp has more jobs than inhabitants.
