Vital-Justin Grandin

Vital -Justin Grandin, OMI ( born February 8, 1829 in Saint -Pierre- sur- orthosis, † June 3, 1902 in St. Albert ) was an Oblate of the Virgin Mary.

Life

1851 Vital Grandin entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates. He longed to be active in the mission, but the instructors at the seminary for foreign missions had not thought him capable of it. 1854, shortly after his ordination, he was sent to the Diocese of Saint -Boniface to Canada. With great diligence, and with considerable effort he announced among the native peoples of Canada the gospel. He initially worked in the mission on the banks of Atabaskasees.

Because of his zeal he was soon appointed Bischofkoadjutor the Diocese of Saint -Boniface. On November 30, 1859, the Superior General of his religious order, the holy Eugene de Mazenod in Marseille consecrated him bishop. Back in Canada, he went back to the mission among the natives, especially on the Ile -de- la- Crosse. As the huge diocese was divided into several curacies, he became Bishop of Saint- Albert, today's Archdiocese of Edmonton. He was still tirelessly in pastoral works, built the church, monasteries, schools and hospitals.

On June 3, 1902, he died in the odor of sanctity. The beatification process has been completed, only the necessary miracle is still missing.
