Vítor Vieira Belfort ( born April 1, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian MMA fighter who competes in Japan and the United States. He is a former light heavyweight champion of the UFC MMA league. His nickname is Phenom (engl. "The Phenomenon "). Belfort wearing black belt in Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu and Judo, as well as blue belt in karate.

Biography

In 1996, Belfort his mixed martial arts debut and won his first fight after only twelve seconds. His coach at the time was Carlson Gracie. In 2004, he won the heavyweight title of the UFC, before moving to middleweight in 2008.

After a positive doping test Belfort has been banned in 2006 for nine months.

Of his 19 wins (April 2010 ) Belfort won over 68% by (T ) KO, 10 of them in the first round.

On April 10, 2010 Belfort should get a renewed title fight against Anderson Silva in Abu Dhabi, but he was injured during training and was not able to fight for the rest of the year. He currently trains with Xtreme Couture.
