Vitovska

The Vitovska is a white grape variety, called from the Slovenian Karst, Kras, which is also grown in the Italian province of Friuli- Venezia Giulia, especially in the communities SGONICO and Duino Aurisina ( in the DOC region Carso ), along the coast to to Istria. But also in the Slovenian Karst the old qualities of Vitovska were rediscovered. Branko & Vasja Cotar are among the top producers. Small vineyards are located in the Vipava - valley.

The name of the vine is Slovene origin, where they sometimes Vitovska Garganija is called. However, the second term is not intended to mislead, because the grapes due to their shape and size has nothing in common with the Veneto Garganega grape. Vitovska is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ).

Earlier this grape is blended with other grapes, while today it is mostly vinified unmixed.
