Vitsœ

Vitsœ is a London- indigenous to manufacturers of design furniture, which was known primarily for system furniture by Dieter Rams.

History

The company Vitsœ & Zapf was founded in 1959 in Frankfurt am Main by the Dane Niels Wiese Vitsœ and Otto Zapf for the production of furniture designs of the designer Dieter Rams. Rams designed a number of systems furniture for Vitsœ including the shelving system 606 and the chair program 620, both of which are regarded as design classics. In 1970, Otto Zapf left the company that has since that time only called Vitsœ.

1985 by Mark Adams, the UK-based subsidiary Vitsœ Ltd founded, initially for the sale of furniture in the UK. After Niels Vitsœs retirement Adams was managing director. 1995 was transferred to the insolvency of the German parent company meadow - Vitsoe the company headquarters and parts of the production to the UK. For the German-speaking countries the furniture was produced from 1995 to 2012 by the German furniture manufacturer Sdr . Since 2012 Vitsœ holds the exclusive worldwide license to Dieter Rams ' furniture designs.

Products

The shelving system 606 was designed in 1960 by Dieter Rams and has since been continuously manufactured by Vitsœ. The flexible fixing of the components allows easy assembly and installation and simplifies the move. The system has won several awards and is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

The 620 -seater was also designed in 1962 by Dieter Rams. The architecture critic and journalist Hans Wichmann called the 620 -seater as an icon of furniture design. The chair has been awarded several design prizes. So the chair was awarded the Rosenthal Studio Prize in 1966 and the Gold Medal at the International Furniture Exhibition in Vienna in 1969 awarded. The chair is part of the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum since 1970.
