Vittorio Prodi

Vittorio Prodi ( born May 19, 1937 in Reggio Emilia ) is an Italian physicist and politician ( PD). Since 2004 he is a member of the European Parliament. He is one of six brothers ( and eight siblings) of Romano Prodi.

Career

Prodi graduated in 1959 in Physics from the University of Bologna. From 1970 he worked here as a freelance lecturer in nuclear measurements, he also taught at various other national and international institutions. 1983 Prodi was in Bologna associate professor in the physics department. He has authored several publications and is the holder of five international patents.

From 1986 to 1992 Prodi was president of the Catholic Action in Bologna. In 1992, he began to become politically active and was from 1995 to 2004 president of the province of Bologna. In the 2004 European elections Prodi was elected as representatives of the centrist party La Margherita in the European Parliament. Here he joined the ALDE group, which included all the member parties of the European Democratic Party, which also includes La Margherita counted. He also served as Vice President of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change, the Parliament had from 2004 to 2009.

2007 La Margherita went on in the newly formed Partito Democratico (PD ), in the Prodi also transgressed. In the European elections in Italy in 2009 he again reached a mandate and now joined together with the other PD deputies of the Socialist Group S & D. He is currently a member of the Environment Committee of the Parliament.
