Viù

Viù ( Piedmontese Viù, Franco-Provençal Viù or Vieu ) is a municipality with 1087 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont.

The municipality consists of the villages Fucina, Fubine, Trichera, Bertesseno, Niquidetto and Chiampetto. Neighboring municipalities are Mezzenile, Traves, Germagnano, Lemie, Vallo Torinese, Varisella, Condove, Val della Torre and Rubiana.

The patron saint of the place is San Martino.

Geography

The town is located 44 km from the provincial capital of Turin in the Valle di Viù, one of the three valleys of the area Lanzo valleys, at an altitude of 785 m above sea level. The valley is drained by the river Stura di Viù, a tributary of the Stura di Lanzo. The municipality covers an area of 84 km ². On the territory of the municipality can be found, typical of this area, many chestnut and beech trees, which can be especially large specimens of the latter found in the area of Colle San Giovanni.

Culture and Festivals

On November 13 of each year, the feast of St. Martin, the patron saint of the village, the village festival, the Fiera di San Martino takes place.
