Life and work

Genaux grew up in Fairbanks in the U.S. state of Alaska to the youngest child of a Swiss-German mother and an American father. Genaux first learned violin. She studied biology in Texas, but at the same time took singing lessons. My first role was in Rossini's opera L' italiana in Algeri at the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee. Genaux occurs especially with the Baroque repertoire. The international breakthrough came in 2002 with the CD Arias for Farinelli with René Jacobs, in which she sang counter tenor roles. The CD was a bestseller and was nominated for a Grammy.
