Vivo (telecommunications)

Vivo is a company from Brazil. The telecommunications company is listed on the financial index IBOVESPA.

Vivo is the largest mobile operator in Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America with over 50 million mobile users. Vivo was born from the fusion of different Brazilian telecommunications company. By mid-2010 was 60%, a 50 /50 joint venture between the Portuguese Portugal Telecom and the Spanish company Telefónica majority shareholder.

Mid-2010, Telefónica was planning a complete takeover of Vivo. For this purpose, the parent company Brasilcel should be acquired, which has led to a public slugfest between the founders of the joint venture.

Most of the telephone network based on the American Mobile Standard IS -95 ( cdmaOne ), although there are areas of the network, continue to be operated in the older analog cellular network Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS ). Since 2006, the network technology, however, converted to the internationally enforced GSM network.
