Vizovice

Vizovice ( German Wisowitz ) is a city in Okres Zlín in the Czech Republic. It lies in the Vizovická Highlands, 14 km east of Zlín at the confluence of Bratřejovka in the Valley of Lutoninka.

History

Vizovice was first mentioned in 1261 as part of the foundation of the monastery Smilheim by Smil Zbraslav and Střílky. Smil was Viscount of Brumov and owned extensive lands in the area. 1418-1420 reached Utraquists in place monastery and during the Hussite Wars in 1424 destroyed both. After the fall of the Monastery 1484/85 Vizovice fell to aristocratic owners. 1570 it became a town.

1663, 1683 and 1707 had Vizovice to suffer from the armed invasion of Hungary. An economic upswing took place in the 18th century with the cloth weaving. 1750-1760 a baroque palace was built according to the plans of the architect Franz Anton Grimm at the site of the former monastery, was built in 1781 next to the castle, the Brothers of Mercy hospital. From the end of the 19th century several small distilleries were operated. 1880 counted 2,668 residents Vizovice, including 51 German.

In Vizovice annually finds the Masters Of Rock Heavy Metal Festival.
