Vizzini

Vizzini is a town of the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 6262 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Vizzini located 65 km southwest of Catania on the southwestern slope of Monte Lauro. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture (cereals, prickly pears, vegetables and sumac ).

Borders the following municipalities: Buccheri (SR ), Franco Fonte (SR ), Giarratana (RG), Licodia Euboea, Militello in Val di Catania ( RG) and Mineo.

History

The territory was inhabited in prehistoric times. Here was in Roman times the place bidis. The church today has been built around a castle in the Middle Ages. The castle no longer exists.
