Vlaamse Opera

The Vlaamse Opera (Flemish Opera ) is an opera institution in Belgium, which is native to the cities of Antwerp and Ghent.

Prehistory

1827 was the city of Antwerp, a theater building with the architect Pierre Bruno Bourla in order. The building in the style of classicism began in 1829, the completion is delayed by Belgian revolution for a while. Finally, the theater was completed in 1834 and opened as the Grand Théâtre and Théâtre Royal Français. Currently, it houses the named after the architect Bourla Theatre, in turn, from the merger of the Royal Flemish Theatre and the Blauwe Maandag Compagnie ( Blue Monday Compagnie ) was formed.

Today's venue

The present building of the Koninklijke Vlaamse Opera Antwerp was then placed in 1899 commissioned and opened in 1907. The architectural design is by Alexis Van Mechelen and Emiel Van Averbeke and is decorated in neo-baroque style of Louis XVI. It can accommodate about a thousand visitors.

Flemish Opera Ghent

The Royal Opera van Gent was built in 1840 according to plans by Louis Roelandt. The house next to the Great Hall for three more rooms that can be used for conferences and banquets: the foyer, the redoubt and named after Jean -Baptiste Lully Hall. His monumental French architecture leads to the great hall, are staged operas and ballets and concerts are held and conventions. The house has an elongated L- shape and has been decorated by the most prestigious Parisian decorators of the time, Humanité -René and Charles -Antoine Cambon Philastre. The original capacity of the space of 1800 seats was last reduced to 965 in renovations with significantly better vision. The chandelier measures 3 × 4.5 m and has 84 lights. The dome is painted in trompe l'oeil style.
