Vladimir Krikunov

Vladimir Vasilyevich Krikunov (Russian: Владимир Васильевич Крикунов, born March 24, 1950 in Kirovo - Tschepezk, Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who successfully works as a trainer since end of his career. So, he worked on the Russian, Belarusian and Slovenian national team and won with the HK Dynamo Moscow 2005 Russian Championship.

Career

Vladimir Krikunov comes from the hockey school Olimpija Kirovo - Tschepezk, the hockey club of his birthplace. In the 19070er and early 1980s, he starred in the highest Soviet league for crystal Saratov, Krylia Sovetov Moscow and Dinamo Riga. He completed a total of 382 games in the Wysschaja League, in which he scored 78 points scorer. His coaching career began at HK Dinamo Minsk, for which he acted as player-coach between 1982 and 1984. In 1984 he ended his playing career and was subsequently first assistant from 1985 was head coach of Dinamo Minsk. At the end of the season 1987/88 he managed with Minsk the rise of the second-rate Perwaja League in the Wysschaja league.

In 1991 he took over as coach at HK Jesenice, with whom he won the 1992 and 1993 two Slovenian championship. After this success, he moved to HK Celje, he oversaw until 1995 as head coach. Then he was coach at the Slovenian Hockey Association. Between 1996 and 1999 he served as head coach at Dynamo-Energy Yekaterinburg, with whom he relegated in 1998 from the Super League to the second division. A year later, managed to rise again as a point best team in the promotion round, but Krikunov left the club. From 1999 to 2001 he was responsible for the Ak Bars Kazan and reached in the 1999/2000 season the final of the Russian Championship.

During the 2001/ 02 season Krikunov was dismissed from Ak Bars Kazan and then took over as coach at Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, which he held until 2004. At the same time, he supervised between 2002 and 2003, the Belarusian national team and led it in the 2002 Winter Olympics for the most international success of the country in fourth place. From 2004, he served as head coach at HK Dynamo Moscow, with whom he won the final of the Super League and thus the Russian championship in 2005. In addition, he was introduced in April 2005 as the new coach of the Russian national team, with whom he won the bronze medal at the next World Cup.

During the 2007/ 08 season Krikunov was dismissed from Dynamo Moscow, was however a short time later committed by Neftekhimik. With Neftekhimik he reached over the next four years, each game the play-offs, but failed at the latest in the quarterfinals. He was before the 2011/12 season again head coach at Ak Bars Kazan, but could not meet the demands made of him and his team expectations with fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Hence his contract was terminated in April 2012.

As of June 2012 Krikunov was head coach at Barys Astana and in July of the same year coach of the Kazakh national team. In April 2013 he left Kazakhstan again and was discharged again head coach at Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, but at the end of October of the same year.
