Vladimir of Bulgaria

Vladimir Rassate, Laudomur or Waldemar ( Bulgarian Владимир Расате; * 850, † after 893 ) was the second Christian ruler of Bulgaria. Vladimir was the eldest son of Boris I. Michael and took his throne and title Knjaz after he had retired to a monastery.

His short reign is brought by an approximation of the Bulgarian Empire to the East Frankish kingdom under Arnulf of Carinthia in conjunction. Both monarchs were 892 military alliance, which was directed against the Mährerreich. This was not only directed against Byzantine interests, but also provided an orientation of Bulgaria's external policy, which passed by a pro -Byzantine under Boris I Michael in a pro- Frankish and pro- Roman Catholic. Next Vladimir is by a further attempt to impose paganism in Bulgaria again known. This attempt ultimately cost him the throne. 893 summoned his father Boris I Michael the Great Council of the Boljaren, the I., later called the Great, replaced him with the third-oldest son of Michael Simeon on the throne. How and when Vladimir died is unknown, but this will probably happen after his deposition 893.
