Vladimir Petković ( born August 15, 1963 in Sarajevo, SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former football player and current coach. He describes himself as a Swiss and a Bosnian Croat.

Career

As a player, Petković was at FK Sarajevo and later at various clubs in Switzerland under contract.

As a coach, he oversaw the Ticino clubs Malcantone Agno and AC Bellinzona. The latter he led in the 2007/ 08 season in the Swiss Cup final and rose simultaneously in the highest Swiss league. From 10 August 2008 to 8 May 2011, he was head coach of BSC Young Boys. After " YB " was prematurely excreted in both the UEFA Europa League as well as in the Swiss Cup and most recently in the title race for the Swiss Championship, Petković was dismissed in May 2011. In June 2011 he signed a two -year contract with newly promoted in the Turkish Süper Lig Samsunspor. He was released on 23 January 2012 due to lack of success. In May 2012, Petković signed a year contract as head coach at FC Sion with an option for another year. For the 2012/13 season changed to Petković Italian first division club Lazio Rome, in which he received a two-year contract. After winning in the first season with Lazio, the Italian Cup, his contract was prematurely extended until 30 June 2015.

After the FIFA World Cup 2014 Petković takes over the Swiss national football team to succeed Ottmar Hitzfeld. He signed a contract until the end of 2015. Is Switzerland qualified at this point for the UEFA Euro 2016, the contract is extended until after the final round. In the result, there were disputes between Petković and Lazio, as Petković despite ongoing contract with Lazio in secret with the Swiss Football Association negotiated a commitment by the end of the term of the contract with Lazio. On January 4, 2014 he was released.
