Vladimir Vasilj

Vladimir Vasilj ( born July 6, 1975 in Hanover, Germany ) is a Croatian goalkeeper. He currently plays for NK Široki Brijeg in the Bosnian Premijer league.

Career

Vasilj began his career in Bosnia and Herzegovina at NK Široki Brijeg. His second club was also the Bosnian FK Velež Mostar where he was until 1995 under contract. From 1995 to 1998 he played for NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac in Croatia, where he was traded in the first two seasons as the first goalkeeper and thereby completed 63 games. In the summer of 1998 changed Vasilj free transfer to Dinamo Zagreb, where he came to five appearances until 2001 and decided then to within Zagreb NK Zagreb to transfer. In 2002 he was master of Zagreb with Croatian league, which should be their first and only championship to date. In Zagreb he came to 2003 to at least 57 missions, making him but that did not stop in 2003, after Varaždin to the local NK Varteks Varaždin to change. The club was founded in 1932 he was able to accumulate in 30 matches, as well as two UEFA Cup matches. The two games were lost in the first round of the UEFA Cup against the Hungarian club Debreceni VSC. Only a year later Vasilj returned again in 2004 back to his former club Dinamo Zagreb for which he was able to complete 20 games. Likewise, he still came to a total of six missions in the UEFA Cup. After another just one year, he received an offer from Konyaspor from Turkey, he also accepted shortly thereafter. For the Turks, he came only two appearances. Since 2006 Vasilj is back at his youth club, the NK Široki Brijeg, under contract.

National

In the spring of 1998 Vasilj was included in the squad of the Croatian national team and there acted as third goalkeeper. He was also in the 22 -man squad by Croatia in the 1998 World Cup in France, but said he had no use. Croatia finished the World Cup on the 3rd place. His international debut for Vasilj celebrated on 29 May 1998 in Pula, in a friendly against Slovakia, when he came on in the second half. 2002 Vasilj returned as the third goalkeeper back to the national team, where he was in the same year in the Croatian 23 -man squad for the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. As early as 1998 he did not play well at this World Cup. Just before the World Cup, he came in a friendly against Hungary again to use one for the Croatian national team. 2004 involved Vasilj at the European Championships again in 2004 as the third goalkeeper to the Croatian contingent, after the goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa had hurt.
