Vladimir Zubkov (wrestler)

Vladimir Anatoljevich Zubkov (Russian: Владимир Анатольевич Зубков; born April 30, 1948 in Novosibirsk ) is a former Soviet wrestler. He was four time world champion in Greco-Roman style in the paper weight.

Career

Vladimir Zubkov began as a teenager in Novosibirsk with the rings. He concentrated entirely on the Greco- Roman style. The only 1.50 meters tall athlete ranking as a senior in the paper weight, the lightest weight class, which was introduced by the International Wrestling Federation ( FILA ) in 1969 and had their weight limit at 48 kg body weight.

His first start in an international championship was the same as at the World Cup 1970 in Edmonton. He came there to victories over the uniformly very strong wrestler Hızır Sari from Turkey, Henrik Gál from Hungary, Rahim Aliabadi from Iran, Raimo Hirvonen of Finland and Bernard Sczcepanski from Poland. He stood thus in the final, where he lost to Berceanu Gheorghe from Romania on points. He thus became Vice World Champion.

At the World Championships in 1971 in Sofia he then succeeded in the paper weight of the first title. He passed around victory over Rahim Aliabadi, Matsuda from Japan and Raimo Hirvonen and a draw against Hızır saree.

In 1972 he started for the first time at a European Championship. But in Katowice he lost after four won fights against Stefan Angelov from Bulgaria and Gheorghe Berceanu and therefore had to be satisfied with the EM bronze medal. Despite this not very satisfactory for a Soviet wrestler cutting Wladimir Zubkov was also used at the Olympic Games this year in Munich. He was there but raven black days, because he lost both fights he denied and indeed against Stefan Angelov and against Gheorghe Berceanu. So he left and ended up in 16th place.

However, the Soviet team lead continued to hold on to it. He rewarded that confidence by winning the world title in 1973 in Tehran, 1974 in Katowice and in 1975 in Minsk. He defeated among others, thereby with Ryszard Świerad from Poland, Haralambos Holidis from Greece, Ferenc Seres from Hungary, Constantin Alexandru Gheorghe Berceanu from Romania and Alexander Zajaczkowski from Poland louder world-class athletes. In 1973 he was charged in the fight against Stefan Angelov and 1974 made ​​in the fight against Georgi Georgijew from Bulgaria in each case together with these wrestlers because passivity of the mat and each with four faulty points. In 1976 he succeeded, however, no longer be eligible for participation in the Olympic Games in Montreal. He lost the Soviet excretion against Alexei Shumakov. He finished his 1977 international Ringer career and trained as a physical education teacher. Currently (2009) he is base coach for the Austrian Ring Sports association based in Salzburg and also coach of AC whale.
