Vlastimil Jansa

Vlastimil Jansa ( born November 27, 1942 in Prague) is a Czech chess grandmaster.

Chess career

Jansa learned the game of chess with eight years in the hospital, he was only 14 years old Prague city youth champion, three years later in 1959, he was second in the Czechoslovakian Junior Championship. Jansa has a degree from the Charles University in exercise science. Long him the International Master Emil Richter (1894-1971) has trained, who was in Bratislava won the championship of Czechoslovakia in 1948. Jansa 1965 International Champion, 1974 Grand Master. He played a very long time for the selection of Czechoslovakia. Overall Jansa has participated ten times ( in 1964 to 1986) at the Chess Olympiad and won 71 points in 122 games. He won an Olympic medal: silver with the team in 1982 in the years 1964, 1974 and 1984 Jansa won the national championship of Czechoslovakia.. Jansa has won six times with UDA ( Ústředný Dum Armády, Central House of the Army ) Prague the team championship of Czechoslovakia. In Germany he plays for the SC Forchheim.

Also in many international tournaments Jansa has performed very well: He was the winner in Cerveny Kostelec (1959 ), Prague (1968 ), Amsterdam ( 1973), Madonna di Campiglio (1973 ), Vrnjačka Banja (1981 ), Trnava (1982 ), Borgarnes (1985 ), Munster (1992 ), Bohdaneč (1997). One of the best tournaments Jansa was the championship of Czechoslovakia in 1974, in which he won with a 12.5 out of 15. Jansa still plays an active chess. He was second in the Senior World Chess Championship 2006 in Arvier.

His current Elo rating is 2499 (as of November 2010), best historical Elo rating was 2615 in June 1976.

Outside, next to the board

Jansa is a well-known chess coach. He developed the early 1970s, a test for the measurement of chess talent, he applied for the Czech junior players. This was also in the German chess magazine (1973, pp. 127-130 ) reprinted. A part thereof is Springer problem that must be solved for time. Jansa was coach of David Navara, who currently (as of January 2008) the best Czech chess player. He is also the coach of Luxembourg. In 2010 he received the title of FIDE Senior Trainer.
