Vlkanov (Domažlice District)

Vlkanov ( German Wilkenau ) is a municipality in the West Bohemian Okres Domažlice.

Geography

Vlkanov is about three kilometers south of the railway line to Poběžovice Poběžovice - Domažlice, but has no train station.

History

The Czech name Vlkanov ( vlk = Wolf) must be the original and was probably onomatopoeic Germanized already before 1600 by Dovetailed i to avoid uncustomary the German consonant clusters, by replacing ov by -au (as in: Vranov -> FROHNAU, Smolov -> Schmolau, Pařezov -> Parisáu ) and by shifting the emphasis from the first ( in Czech is always dieBetonung on the first syllable ) on the last syllable: Wilkenáu.

In the first mention of Wilkenau in 1359 it belonged to Zdenko von Hirsch stone. 1421 Wilkenau prescribed by Emperor Sigismund Chotieschauer monastery.

1621 Before Wilkenau belonged to Ronsperger rule, which held Peter by Swan Mountain until his death in 1620. Because of their participation in the Prague uprising of his possessions were confiscated by the Treasury in 1621, including Wilkenau.

1656 were registered in Wilkenau 8 farmers, a Chalupner, 5 gardener, 13 teams, 15 cows, 37 young cattle, 108 sheep and 54 pigs. 1789 had 33 houses Wilkenau, 1839, 53 houses, 369 inhabitants, an estate, a sheep, a tavern and a knacker. In 1913 there were 357 inhabitants in Wilkenau, two inns, a shop, a tobacconist, a tailor, a blacksmith and a knackery. It was the parish and enrolled after Ronsperg. Some brave men from Wilkenau built on their own initiative, despite rejection by the local government a stub after Wilkenau, so that in 1945 all the houses of the village were electrified.

Today ( 2013) has Vlkanov an inn, a public library and a children's playground.
