Vobarno

Vobarno is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 8159 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Val Sabbia the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. The community is located about 24 kilometers northwest of Brescia near Lake Garda ( about 6 kilometers to the west bank ) at the Parco Alto Garda Bresciano. The municipality belongs to the Comunità Montana della Valle Sabbia. The Chiese here flows through the Val Sabbia.

History

In the Middle Ages Vobarno belonged as a fief of the Bishop of Brescia, who at least had to impose by force twice its claims. From 1454 Vobarno was part of the Venetian Republic in 1797 to take after Napoleon's victory under Habsburg rule.

Built in 1897, railway Rezzato - Vobarno ( electrified in 1927 ) was shut down in the late 1960s.

Community partnership

Vobarno maintains since 2008 a partnership with the Hungarian city Sümeg in Veszprém county.
