Minaret of Vobkent

Vobkent (Cyrillic Вобкент; Russian Вабкент Wabkent ) is a city in the Uzbek province of Bukhara, located about 25 km north of the city of Bukhara to 240 m above sea level. 1989 were counted in the city of about 12,400 inhabitants in the census, a calculation for 2009 are that there is the population of 17,896. Vobkent is the capital of a district of the same name.

The main tourist attraction is a Vobkents 28.7 m high minaret from the time of Qarakhanid, built in the years 1197-1199. The minaret has similarities with the Kalon Minaret in Bukhara, but seems less elegant.

On Sundays, a market is held in Vobkent.
