Vochysia

The genus belongs to the family of Vochysia Vochysiaceae. The botanical name of the genus Vochysia (w ) is derived from a Caribbean language. This purely Neotropical genus is widespread with about 100-130 species in tropical Central and South America, from 23 ° N to 27 ° S.

Description

Most Vochysia species are trees, some shrubs, a few species subshrubs. The undivided, ganzrandigen leaves are opposite or whorled. The stipules are small and triangular. The inflorescences are thyrsi with vetch time part inflorescences, the terminal branch ends are available at the most.

Use

All Vochysia species are not subject to CITES regulations and trade restrictions. The predominantly fibrous trunks are used in their distribution areas for the construction of canoes and pirogues, but also find use in the construction of furniture and as timbers.
