Voigtstedt

Voigtstedt is a municipality in the Thuringian Kyffhauserkreis and belongs to the administrative community resources center Artern.

Location

The Federal Highway 86 and the railroad tracks of Artern after Roßleben and the under construction Federal Highway 71 through the district of the place. Surrounded is the pool by Artern in the north from the resin, to the west by Kyffhaeuser and on the east by Ziegelrodaer forest. Thus, this country is one of the warmest and driest areas in Thuringia.

History

At the beginning of the 9th century Voigstedt is built in a directory of the Patrimony of the Archbishop Lull († 786) of Mainz Hersfeld Monastery mentioned as Vocstat documented. On a small island of the helmets was the former water castle on the north-east corner of the village. A Henry of Vokstete was called in 1200, was probably the lord of the castle. 1208 was called a castle. Remains of these buildings are not available. At times, up to six manors were in place, including the Amtsgut, the Schloßgut, the rear tower, the exchange Unger yard and Kresses yard. The place was also the seat of an elegant office which included the villages Voigtstedt, Nikolausrieth, Katharinenrieth and Schonfeld. The noble family Knaut had here from 1453-1554 held a yard, which was until the 19th century Knauthof.

During the Second World War, 57 women and men were mainly from Russia, Ukraine and Poland to forced labor.

Attractions

  • In the north of Voigtstedt there was the brick factory Louis with a nearby clay pit. This clay pit became famous for their discoveries of fossil carnivore remains from the Pleistocene. " Voigtstedt warm period " means a period of Earth's history, during the Quaternary period about 470,000 years ago. Up to this part behind the resin the ice of the glaciers came. At the edge of the glacier winds have the loess and clay of the Golden Meadows piled preserved fossils of bison, beaver, hyena, southern elephant and many other animals. There followed the Mindel glaciation.
  • In Voigtstedt 1878/79 a burial ground from the Roman imperial period has already been discovered.
