Volary

Volary ( German: Wallern ) is a town with 4,015 inhabitants ( 2008) in the region of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It is located near the border with Germany in the Bohemian Forest, about 16 kilometers southwest of the city Prachatice, at an altitude of 760 meters.

History

Wallern originated on the Gold Trail as a branch for pack animals. Wallern was first documented in 1359, a city charter was granted in 1871.

Until the founding of Czechoslovakia, the city was part of Austria -Hungary. Beginning of 1946 had Volary 4000 German inhabitants. As of March 1946, the German inhabitants were dispossessed and displaced.

To town Volary the districts Chlum ( Humwald ) and Mlynářovice (Müller shock) as well as the hamlets and layering in Dolni Sněžná include ( Under Snow village), Krejčovice (Schneider beat), Milešice ( top impact ), Nové Chalupy ( Neuhäuser ) Plešivec ( Kolmberg ) Soumarský Most ( Säumerbrücke ) and Svatá Magdalena ( Magdalena St. ). In the municipality of corridors is the deserted village Horni Sněžná (upper snow village ).

Twinning

There are partnerships with the Bavarian town of Forest Churches and the Upper Austrian market town Wallern at the Trattnach.
