The mountain is a popular Mars south of Aalen in Ostalb situated 743.3 m above sea level. NHN high mountains of the Swabian Alb. It rises on the outskirts of Oberkochen. About an approximately 2.5 km long hiking trail, the summit from there in about half an hour can be reached.

Use

The heath area around the summit and part of the surrounding forest are reported with an area of ​​68.1 hectares as a nature reserve Volkmarsdorf mountain since 1938.

On the summit plateau is a managed hut of the Swabian Alp Association and the 23 m high Volkmarsdorf Mountain Tower, a stone observation tower built in 1930, from which one has a wide view over the entire Ostalb. When temperature inversions the view extends in rare cases up to 180 km away Zugspitze.

The tower houses the amateur radio relay with the call sign DB0AA. A little below is a ski lift and the accompanying cottage.

History

Origin of the name

The origin of the name is not known with certainty.
