Volkshaus

The People's House Zurich is a multifunctional building with a concert hall at its core, restaurant, meeting rooms, function rooms, sauna and offices. It is located at Helvetia Square at the intersection Ankerstrasse / Stauffacherstrasse.

History

The people of Zurich house was opened in 1910 as the first non-alcoholic People's House of Switzerland. Contrary to popular houses in other Swiss cities not only trade unions and the Social Democratic Party were behind the establishment, but the composition of the founders changed in the twenty-year start-up phase several times. In addition to the labor movement also engaged social reformer, the city and the founders of the future Zurich Women's Club.
