Volkswagen do Brasil

Volkswagen do Brasil Sociedade Limitada is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, which was founded in 1953 in Brazil. After Germany and more recently China Brazil is the country in which Volkswagen has the largest representation. Its origins date back to 1950 back when Heinz Nordhoff, then CEO of Volkswagen, had the idea to expand the Group's activities to other countries.

Over time, Volkswagen do Brasil has profiled with models and variants of their own design, which are suitable for different markets in South America and Africa and there replace or supplement the European models. Currently, Volkswagen took second place in automobile sales in Brazil, behind Fiat.

Likewise, Volkswagen do Brasil acts as an "extended workbench " for the Volkswagen Group and represents the Fox for all markets worldwide manufacture, in which this model is offered. Also, the Golf IV is built for markets in Canada and several other countries in Central and South America in Brazil. Also the new Gol and Voyage NF NF was started in most Latin American countries with the export.

Production

Volkswagen currently has five factories in Brazil:

São Bernardo do Campo

The factory is located in a suburb of São Paulo. There are models such as the Gol, the Fox built for export, the Polo, the Polo Classic, the Saveiro ( pickup based on the Gol ). The production capacity is 1300 cars per day. The following production steps are carried out: stamping, body assembly, painting, final assembly, engine and transmission. In addition, there is a center for the planning and development of new products. Approx. 16,000 workers and employees are employed there.

São Carlos

In the factory in this medium-sized city in the state of São Paulo 16 different engines to operate on gasoline, alcohol, or diesel are built, which are used in many cars in Brazil, but also Spain and South Africa. Approx. 500 people are employed there. This factory was the first manufacturing site outside of Europe, the 1997 environmental certificate ISO 14007 received.

Taubaté

This work also is located in Sao Paulo. There, the Gol and Parati ( family version of the Gol ) with a capacity of 1000 cars per day are produced. Currently employed in this factory 4000 people.

São José dos Pinhais

The plant is located in the outskirts of Curitiba. There, the Golf, Fox ( for domestic and foreign markets) and CrossFox be built. 810 cars are emerging every day. They are produced from about 3600 employees. See also corresponding main article on the Audi Senna joint venture.

Resende

The plant is located in the city of Resende, about 150 km from Rio de Janeiro and 250 km from São Paulo. There arise every day 175 trucks and buses. Volkswagen is offering on the Brazilian market a full range of 15 truck models with gross vehicle weights from 4 to 45 tons. of. At present, new models of bus chassis, which are exported to 30 countries, such as appear Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. Approx. 3700 people are employed in this work. Also parts for the production of Volkswagen de Mexico there are manufactured in Puebla.

History of Volkswagen in Brazil

  • 2000: Introduction of the new truck line 2000 Series start of the export of the Gulf to Mexico, the United States and Canada.. Revision of the Saveiro. Presentation of the Gol and Parati models with 1.0 -liter 16V turbo engine. The export of Gol to Egypt begins as well as the export of Bora to Mexico.
  • 2001: Presentation of the Gol Série Ouro, the Gol Highway, the Parati tour and the truck titanium ( 6x2 and 6x4).
  • 2002: Inauguration of the Nova Anchieta plant for the production of the Polo. Presentation of Special Gol Sport, Saveiro City, Parati crossover and golf trip. The Polo Sedán is presented.
  • 2003: launch of the Passat Protect. Reorganization of the Gol versions. Presentation of the Gol Special ( 4 doors) and Saveiro Super Surf. Special model: Gol Highway II Golf VR6 is presented. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Volkswagen do Brasil Gol Total Flex is launched. It is the first Brazilian car that can be operated with any combination of gasoline and alcohol.
  • 2004: Introduction of the new models Parati Saveiro and Total Flex Total Flex. Presentation of the Polo Sportline 1.6 and Sedán Polo Highline.
  • 2005: Presentation of the Fox, which is available for Brazil only with TotalFlex engines. The Polo is offered in three versions: base, Comfortline and Sportline with 1.6 liter engine. The Polo Sedán is available as a base model and Comfortline. Special Model: Golf Sport 1.8 Turbo.
  • 2006: Introduction of the new models of Gol, Parati Saveiro and. Revised versions of Fox, Polo, Polo Sedán and Santana. The three available in Gol engines are all equipped with Total Flex technology. Presentation of CrossFox 1.6 l Total Flex. The Golf is available in eight versions ( 1.6, 1.6 generation, 2.0, 2.0 Automatico, 2.0 Comfortline 2.0 Comfortline Automatico, GTI and GTI Tiptronic ). When combined, a 1.4 liter engine with water cooling triggers from the old air-cooled 1.6 liter boxer.
  • 2007: It go on sale: Polo in versions 1.6 Total Flex and 1.6 Sprotline, polo Sedán in versions Total Flex, Comfortline 1.6 Total Flex and 1.6 Sportline, the Polo GTI, the Fox Sportline 1.0 and 1.6, both Total Flex. In April, the SpaceFox is presented ( from Argentina).
  • 2008: the new Gol NF in July is presented. In November, the new Voyage NF appears. In the same month, the export of the two new models will begin in several Latin American countries.
